RYAN HEWITT
Personal Trainer and Physiotherapist
|
|
Finalist, Fitness Life Personal Trainer of the Year, North Island, Fitness Life Awards 2007
Wellness Representative, North Shore Community Health Voice
Auckland Regional Representative on the National PT council.
Ryan trained as a Physiotherapist. He returned from coaching and playing rugby in the UK to complete his Bachelor of Health Science (Phsyiotherapy) at AUT. Ryan has retired from rugby but remains an active sportsman to this day, competing in many sports incluing strongman.
His passion for fitness and strength led him to look outside traditional physiotherapy for an answer to the health problems of the community around him. Ryan worked concurrently as a physiotherapist in private practice and as a personal trainer in a gym-based setting to glean best practice from both areas. It was then that his personal training system was created. Ryan is someone who truly believes 'the key to life is balance'
Ryan has a background in competitive sports from tennis and athletics to rugby. More recently he has competed nationally in heavyweight athletics and strongman events. Training for sports introduced him to fitness and gym training, and the self-confidence that these pursuits can build.
Many of his clients now see the benefits of Ryan's experience as they are taught to correctly perform technical full-body movements to improve their functional strength and fitness.
Ryan's background in physiotherapy allows him to approach personal training from a solid understanding of the body's bio-mechanics. He uses this knowledge to thoroughly assess each client and design programs and exercise regimes that strengthen damaged and at risk joints and muscles.
He really enjoys working with clients who have injury concerns or who have put up with pain for a long time. These people find that correct exercise really can make a huge difference to their quality of life.
He is passionate about the health and fitness industry, having seen first-hand the difference it can make to people's lives.
His goal is to make a high level of fitness available to everyone and he'll do that by teaching the teachers and creating a dynamic team of personal trainers working together to improve our community.
