Fitness By Design

What we offer

Fitness by Design has a number of different options for our clients because we appreciate that everyone is slightly different in their exercise needs.

We have personal contact with every client whether they choose to join the gym, do personal training, pilates, yoga, or simply drop by once or twice a week for an outdoor bootcamp. A number of our members pick and choose utilising a few different options.

Personal Training

Personal Training is affordable for every person who truly values their health. We see most of our clients on an ongoing long term basis. For some that means once or twice a week, for others this might mean only touching base once every six weeks. The key thing is that someone is keeping you acocuntable to your health and fitness goals. It is very hard to explain what Personal Training is or does but quite simply we teach you how to exercise to maximise your time. By training with a professional you learn exactly what to do. It is like learning to drive with a  Supercar driver as your instructor, rather than just someone throwing you the keys and saying 'have a go'. We want everyone to experience personal training, and so we offre a free initial session to come in and meet one of our trainers.

Fitness Boxing

Over recent years there has been an increasing popularity in using boxing techniques in a gym environment.  It's popular for numerous health reasons; cardio fitness, weight loss, muscular endurance to name a few. It is also a fantastic stress relief and lots of fun!  Using gloves and pads, we'll teach you boxing skills and techniques combined with traditional fitness exercises like lunges and sit-ups to give you an all-over body workout.  Boxing also requires no coordination to music like most other group exercise programs, making it easier to learn if you have 'two-left-feet'!  Our small studio environment also makes our group sessions personal and friendly.

Group training is an affordable and social way for you (and others) to train with one of our Personal Trainers. Increase your fitness and lift yourself to a whole new level. We promote the competitive nature that lives within each of us, but still tailor our sessions to your fitness level.

This is proven to be a highly effective way of motivating each other and staying with it.

We run 6 week blocks both in and outdoors. Fitness is twice as fun when it is shared.

Gym Membership

We are different to your average gym. We are smaller more personal and able to give individual time and input to each of our members. We teach you what to do, and why. Kaizen talks of limiting groups to 200 to get the best out of them, and we agree.. Out gym has a maximum of 200 members to ensure that we never get too big. We joke that we are the gym where 'everybody knows your name' and it is true!

If you want full length mirrors, lines and lines of cardio gear, and body builders strutting about then please go somewhere else. If you want a pleasant environment with friendly helpful staff, and equipment that you actually get taught to use properly then this gym is for you.

We are not expensive, and we have the added bonus of being a 24 hour accecss facility. this means you can fit exercise around your lifestyle. If you traditionally have been turned off by big gyms then don't worry - so have we. We have designed the type of place where people feel empowered to exercise, without feeling intimitdated. Come in and see why we think we are really on to something.

Check out our price lists for full access, off peak, casual and month by month memberships.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy a woman's posture changes dramatically in response to the growing baby.  This can lead to back pain and misalignment in different parts of the body.

Pilates exercises target the deep postural muscles building strength from the inside out, re-balancing the body and bringing it into correct postural alignment.  And unlike other types of exercise, you can start with Pilates at any stage of your pregnancy and still reap tremendous benefits.

Benefits include:

  • Increased abdominal strength - this provides support for the weight of your baby.
  • Aids childbirth by making the pelvic floor muscles stronger
  • Promote good posture, reducing general aches and pains
  • Aids relaxation
  • Aids postnatal recovery

 Post-Natal Pilates

Your body undergoes some remarkable changes during pregnancy and Pilates can play an important role in the body's recovery after labour.  Pilates allows you to work at a variety of levels based on your current level of fitness and now is the best time to re-educate your body and change the way you think about your posture and the way you move.

Please note it is not advisable to return to exercise until at least six weeks after birth and ten weeks or longer if you have had a caesarean section or traumatic labour.

Rehabilitation Therapy

We use exercise everyday as a therapy tool. We help people alleviate pain, improve function, strengthen, lengthen, improve posture, and stabilise joints.

The staff we have at Fitness by Design have been doing it for years... and it works!

We can use a mix of physiotherapy techniques, pilates, and strengthening to help many clients with long term problems.

We specialise in lower backs, knees and shoulders but see most joint complaints on a regular basis.
